FERMA AND M/S HOFLI PRODUCTS AND SERVICES LTD PARTNER ON NATIONWIDE ROAD INVENTORY AND CONDITION SURVEY
The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has announced a strategic collaboration with M/S Hofli Products & Services Ltd to launch a nationwide Road Inventory and Condition Survey. The initiative is designed to transform the Agency’s approach to road data management by centralizing operations, integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) functionalities, and enhancing reporting capabilities for data-driven decision-making.
The official commencement exercise was held today at FERMA Headquarters, Abuja. Speaking at the event, the Head of the ICT Unit, Mr. Ik Nwankwo, highlighted the urgent need for modernization in the Agency’s data management practices.
“For years, FERMA has relied on multiple Excel files managed independently by field officers across our State and Zonal offices. This outdated system created challenges such as data fragmentation, inconsistencies, loss of critical information, and inefficiencies in reporting—issues that hinder timely and informed decisions in road maintenance planning. This collaboration and the new software solution will address these challenges and reposition FERMA for smarter operations,” Mr. Nwankwo stated.
The newly introduced digital platform is designed to standardize and streamline data collection, storage, and reporting across all operational levels. Key features include:
Road Inventory Data Management
Road Condition Survey Management
GIS Integration for spatial analysis
Enhanced security measures, including data encryption, backup and recovery, and protection against cyber threats.
By adopting this modern system, FERMA aims to improve accuracy, accessibility, and usability of road data, while ensuring better allocation of resources and improved efficiency in road maintenance activities.
“This is a crucial step in modernizing Nigeria’s infrastructure oversight,” Mr. Nwankwo added. “By replacing fragmented and error-prone Excel-based systems with an intelligent, centralized platform, FERMA is laying the foundation for a more reliable, efficient, and transparent road maintenance framework nationwide.”
FERMA’s embrace of digital solutions underscores its commitment to innovation and the principle of “working smarter, not harder.” The Agency is confident that this initiative will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s road infrastructure management and ultimately enhance service delivery to the public.
