FG Intensifies Intervention on Maje–Dikko Corridor

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to alleviate the hardship faced by road users and restore normal traffic movement along the severely distressed Maje–Dikko axis of the Suleja–Minna corridor.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Dr. Emeka Agbasi, inspected the affected section alongside the Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo; the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed; and the President of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Alhaji Othman Yusuf.

The inspection followed prolonged gridlock and worsening hardship experienced by motorists, commuters, truck drivers and other road users. The affected section, which forms part of the approximately 7.9-kilometre Dikko–Maje corridor, has suffered significant pavement failure, compounded by the heavy movement of articulated vehicles.

The visit enabled the stakeholders to assess the condition of the road firsthand, identify the immediate causes of the traffic obstruction and determine the urgent interventions required to restore the free flow of traffic.

Following the inspection, the concessionaire was directed to mobilise the necessary equipment, materials and manpower and complete the emergency remedial works within 48 hours.

The intervention is expected to provide immediate relief to road users, while more permanent rehabilitation measures are pursued to deliver a durable solution. Proposed long-term interventions include the deployment of stronger pavement solutions, including reinforced concrete pavement, to improve the resilience of the corridor and reduce recurrent traffic disruptions.

The intervention is in line with the Federal Government’s commitment, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, to improve road infrastructure, ease the burden on Nigerians and strengthen connectivity across the country.

FERMA continues to work with the Federal Ministry of Works, the FRSC, the concessionaire, NARTO and other stakeholders to improve the condition of federal road corridors and ensure safer, more reliable movement for road users.
